Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores electromagnetic fields induced by imposing a monochromatic excitation onto an infinitely thin helix structure. It follows other research into the nature of electromagnetic fields around helical structures, but breaks new ground by using a different approach to the p…roblem. While previous studies approximated the helix with a cylindrical model, this book uses a retarded vector potential to account for the singular nature of an infinitely thin conductor. By defining a propagation constant, the author is able to establish the correctness of the initial assumption that an imposed electromagnetic field will induce a sinusoidal current on the helical conductor. The resulting expressions are evaluated in terms of Bessel function expansions, and the radial and axial flow of energy is analyzed, revealing that certain frequencies can induce radiating terms which cause a finite radial flow of energy. The author's approach not only advances the understanding of electromagnetic fields around helical structures, but also provides a method for extending the results to helices of finite wire diameter. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
