The author believes that the US should instead focus on strengthening its gold standard and eliminating inferior silver coinage. He supports this by referencing historical examples of asset-backed currency leading to inflation, distrust, and economic decline. The author also argues that the current economic troubles are not due to a lack of money, but rather to over-speculation and reckless lending. The author concludes that adopting asset-backed currency would be a grave mistake and would lead to even greater economic problems in the future. This book provides a valuable historical perspective on the dangers of asset-backed currency and offers insights into the importance of sound monetary policy.
