This book presents the findings from the Indiana University Biological Station's inaugural report, a survey of Turkey Lake as a unit of environment and the variation of its inhabitants. As one of the first attempts at studying an ecosystem as a whole, it was an early example of a holistic approach to ecology. By examining water temperature, plankton, fish and other animal populations, and examining how they all interact with their environment, the author provides a comprehensive view of the lake's ecosystem and how it functions as a unit. The ideas presented in this book form an important milestone in the development of ecological research and underscore the book's significance to the history of the field. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
