Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Abelard and Heloise is a book written by Ridgely Torrence in 1907. It is a retelling of the story of the 12th-century French philosopher Peter Abelard and his love affair with his student Heloise. The book is based on the actual letters exchanged between the two lovers and their subsequent tragic fate. Abelard, a brilliant scholar, and Heloise, a young woman of exceptional intelligence, fell in love while Abelard was tutoring her. Their relationship was scandalous, as Abelard was a monk and Heloise a nun. Despite the obstacles, they pursued their love affair and secretly married. However, their happiness was short-lived as Abelard was castrated by Heloise's uncle in a jealous rage. The couple was forced to separate, and Abelard became a monk while Heloise became an abbess. The book explores the themes of love, passion, religion, and the limitations imposed by society. It is a poignant and tragic tale of two lovers whose love was forbidden but enduring. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
