This book provides coastal engineers and researchers with a numerical model that predicts sediment transport and the resulting bathymetry near coastal structures. The work was carried out under the US Army Coastal Engineering Research Center's Numerical Modeling of Shoreline Response…to Coastal Structures work unit. The study objectives include documenting state-of-the-art models, developing and documenting an improved model that includes the capability to represent n-contours, and applying the model to several relevant coastal engineering problems. The model includes longshore and onshore-offshore sediment transport and an improved distribution of longshore sediment transport across the surf zone based on laboratory results. The wave climate is specified on the model boundaries and does not need to extend to deep water. Efficient algorithms are employed for representing wave refraction and diffraction. The equation of sediment continuity and transport are solved by a completely implicit algorithm which allows for a large time-step. Specified sediment transport values or specified contour positions can be accommodated at the model boundaries. The model is suitable for investigating the shoreline response to a variety of modifications such as one or more groins, terminal structures, structures with variable permeability, and beach nourishment with or without terminal structures. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
