After almost 40 years of active diving, I have followed many an underwater treasure trail. In 1982, for example I even visited one of the sites covered by this book and, arm…ed with a brand new underwater metal detector set off with great hopes. Just as soon as I hit the seabed that piece of equipment started sounding as though I was sitting on top of a veritable hoard of valuable metal. Unfortunately, it was responding to the iron content of the rock itself and we all came home empty-handed. Elsewhere, I have found cannon and cannon balls in large quantities but never anything of value. That, however, has never stopped me from reading of the exploits of those who have been successful and, as such works go, this is one of the better books on the subject. Lavishly illustrated from beginning to end, this work remains as relevant today as it did when first published in 1993.
