Hardcover. Condizione: Very good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very good. [4], iv, 212, [10] pages. The tale of great boat races and thrilling experiences with Tom Swift the boatman. Victor Appleton was a house pseudonym used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate and its successors, most famous for being associated with the Tom Swift series of books. Howard R. Garis contributed to the original Tom Swift series. Howard Roger Garis (April 25, 1873 November 6, 1962) was an American author, best known for a series of books that featured the character of Uncle Wiggily Longears, an engaging elderly rabbit. Garis and his wife, Lilian Garis, were possibly the most prolific children's authors of the early 20th century. Garis wrote many books for the Stratemeyer Syndicate under various pseudonyms. As Victor Appleton, he wrote about the enterprising Tom Swift. Tom Swift is the main character of six series of American juvenile science fiction and adventure novels that emphasize science, invention, and technology. Inaugurated in 1910, the sequence of series comprises more than 100 volumes. The first Tom Swift later, Tom Swift Sr. was created by Edward Stratemeyer, the founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate. Tom's adventures have been written by various ghostwriters, beginning with Howard Garis. Most of the books are credited to the collective pseudonym "Victor Appleton". Tom Swift has been cited as an inspiration by various scientists and inventors, including aircraft designer Kelly Johnson. "Tom Swift and His Motor-Boat; Or, The Rivals of Lake Carlopa" by Victor Appleton is an adventure novel written in the early 20th century. The story revolves around Tom Swift, a clever young inventor, as he navigates various challenges associated with acquiring a motor-boat and the ensuing escapades that arise from it. As Tom explores the world of boating, he encounters rivals, engages in a spirited auction, and uncovers sinister plots involving villains from his past. At the start of the novel, Tom Swift is excitedly preparing to attend an auction for a motor-boat, previously stolen by a gang of thieves associated with his father's invention. He is determined to bid on the boat, alongside his skeptical father, who worries about the cost and potential danger. Tom finds himself confronting a rival, Andy Foger, who wants the boat for himself. The opening chapters set the stage for a lively auction scene while also introducing the hints of rivalry and possible sabotage surrounding the characters. As the story unfolds, Tom's ingenuity will likely come to the forefront as he deals with challenges posed by both machinery and rival relationships.
