On Giving: The Tithe Then . and Now by Gleason is unusual in that it focuses only on the Bible. In passing, Gleason discusses recent popular teachings and shows through the Bible why these teachings, particularly by preachers, cannot be trusted. The primary emphasis is on what the Bible teaches concerning giving. Gleason begins by illuminating what was required of God's people prior to the times of the New Testament, then he emphasizes what has been written to the churches. Gleason has known many people who have given according to what is taught with no results. 'Results,' meaning those givers having the associated promises in their hands. Yet they still give, hoping that God will eventually take note. But giving is a matter of the heart, and it is not to be done grudgingly. We must first learn to hear God's voice when He tells us to give. This book is for these givers, hoping that they will indeed see the promises of God show up in abundance. Rick Gleason is well-versed in the Bible, what it preaches, and what it teaches concerning giving.
