Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Life was very different 100 years ago, back when Marjorie Lee Browne lived, and if it weren't for her it would be very different today too! Marjorie overcame countless obstacles as an African American woman growing up in the South during the Jim Crow era. She became one of the first women to earn a masters in the field of mathematics and used her unstoppable work ethic and passion for math to revolutionize the field of topology (math that is related to the geometric properties and spatial relations of objects). Experience what life was like in post-Civil War America through the eyes of Marjorie Lee Browne in this gripping tale of overcoming obstacles and defying societal expectations and norms. Top of the Class is the first book in the four part series, STEM Super-heroines, published by Girls Rock Math. GRM aims to inspire youth with stories of the brave, creative, and accomplished women that have helped shape mathematics as we know it today. Girls Rock Math is a program that aims to provide thought provoking, creative experiences in math, empowering girls to develop confidence in their skills and a life-long interest in mathematics.
