English. See images for condition. About the book >.>.> Throughout human history, birds have fascinated us. Their beauty, gifts of song and flight have inspired poets, artists, and scholars, who have in turn vividly represented birds with such noble qualities as freedom, grace, and divinity. Now, in this beautiful and thought-provoking book, photographer Victor Schrager and author A.S Byatt capture the very essence of this fascina-tion for all to savor. Over a period of seven years, Schrager has elegantly photographed over 100 species of birds in the hands of ornithologists. In each of Schrager's rich, platinum prints the human hand is transformed into a delicate pedestal for an even more delicate creature. Bird Hand Book combines these sumptuous images with a charming and enlightening essay by Booker Prize-winning author A.S. Byatt. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, from Chaucer and Linnaeus to Darwin and Audubon, Byatt poetically recounts more than 5,000 years of bird writing. Renowned designer Stephen Doyle has gracefully.

Prima edizione Copia autografata
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Victor Schrager (illustratore). 1st Edition. Stated 'First Edition, 2001'. Signed and inscribed by the photographer, Victor Schrager, on the half-title page. The inscription reads: 'for Nancy Greene, with best wishes, Victor Schrager'. You can see the covers of the book itself in the photos. They are very clean. There is some light foxing/spotting off the top and bottom edges of the front and rear covers. It looks like color fading. The cover edges are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The cover corners are in excellent shape, also no rubbing. The page edges are very clean. There is a small green ribbon that is bound in off the bottom page edge. The ribbon is in very good condition. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are perfectly clean, no wear. The same can be said for all of the pages in the book. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. The pages are also nicely bright. I'm not finding any instances of creasing on any the pages. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And Mr. Schrager's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere. The dust jacket is in excellent condition. I don't see any soiling. There are no tears. There is one tiny crinkle at the top edge of both the front and rear cover, another tiny one at the top edge of the spine. The flaps are in excellent condition, very clean, no tears. Again there is one tiny crinkle at the top edge of both the front and rear flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are taken. From the dust jacket: 'Throughout human history, birds have fascinated us. Their beauty and gifts of song and flight have inspired poets, artists, and scholars, who have in turn vividly represented birds with such noble qualities as freedom, grace and divinity. Now, in this beautiful and thought-provoking book, photographer Victor Schrager and author A. S. Byatt capture the very essence of this fascination for all to savor. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, from Chaucer and Linnaeus to Darwin and Audubon, Byatt poetically recounts more than 5,000 years of bird writing.
