"This book contains six papers by distinguished experts arising from or related to the mathematical work of Hans Zassenhaus (1912-1991). Topics treated include group theory, Lie algebras, commutative group rings and computational number theory. Helmut Bender's article is devoted to the classification of finite near fields, and Wilhelm Plesken deals with crystallographic groups as well as the classification of four dimensional space groups. Alexei Kostrikin reports about the development of modular Lie algebra theory with special attention paid to simple Lie algebras over fields of small characteristic. A step towards the classification of orthogonal decompositions of complex simple Lie algebras is done in Pham Huu Tiep's contribution. The subject of Klaus Hoechsmann's article is the arithmetic of commutative group rings, in particular the structure of the unit group of integral group rings of abelian groups of odd order. Finally, the contribution by Michael Pohst is concerned with the computation of invariants of algebraic number fields." (Verlagstext) Inhalt: Horst G. Zimmer: Introductory address. / Horst Tietz: After-dinner speech / Pham Huu Tiep: On the solvability of the kernel of any orthogonal decomposition / Alexei I. Horst-Günter Zimmer (* 30. Juni 1937 in Lübeck; gestorben 24. Hans Julius Zassenhaus (* 28. Mai 1912 in Koblenz; gestorben 21. (Wikipedia) In englischer Sprache. XX, 201, (3) pages.
