However, existing editions in use today are philologically unsatisfactory for a number of reasons, and the aim of this work is to present a sounder text. This edition is the first to pay adequate attention to the second family of manuscripts, as well as placing the conjectures of the respective philologists in their correct context.; Die bisherigen Ausgaben von Hedicke, Bardon, Müller und Atkinson haben ein solides Fundament sowohl für die Erarbeitung der Handschriften des Q. Curtius Rufus als auch für das Textverständnis im Allgemeinen geschaffen.Die letzte Teubnersche Ausgabe wurde von Hedicke Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts herausgegeben. Den vorigen Herausgebern ist gemeinsam, dass sie ungefähr zehn Handschriften genutzt haben. Die neueren Forschungen von Professor Oakley haben hingegen 150 Handschriften zu Tage gebracht. Die vorliegende Ausgabe ist nun das Ergebnis der erstmaligen Beschäftigung mit allen bekannten Handschriften. Auch bezüglich des Stemmas haben sich dadurch insofern Änderungen ergeben, als die zweite Familie erstmals vollständig erarbeitet werden konnte. Zudem wurden den bereits vorhandenen Konjekturen erstmals die jeweiligen Philologen zugeordnet, weitere Konjekturen wurden durch den Herausgeber selbst vorgenommen, um dem Leser eine ausführliche Ausgabe zur Verfügung zu stellen.
