Presupposed is a background in quantum mechanics, some knowledge of statistical mechanics, and a familiarity with distribution functions. A formal course in solid state physics, however, is not a prerequisite. Throughout Principles of Magnetic Resonance, general theoretical methods are illustrated by application to simple problems drawn mostly from solid state physics, with discussion of the physical significance of the results. Problems of varying difficulty are provided, and basic principles are developed in connection with nuclear resonance prior to a discussion of the additional ideas encountered in electron spin resonance.
