A rich purple hardcover book with the title written in white along the spine. There is a red dust jacket with the title typed on the front in white. The spine is gray with typed white lettering. Pages: (6), 7-374, (2). Profusely illustrated with many black-and-white images, as well as several color plates. Written in German. ["This book attempts to reconstruct and vividly present the holdings of the Neue Pinakothek in 1868 - at the time of the death of its founder. The most important part is the photographic and archival documentation of the approximately 430 works on display at that time: a forensic masterpiece in view of the fact that collection holdings were transferred to other institutions or sold, and paintings were lost or destroyed. The historical context is outlined in three essays: on Ludwig I as a patron and patron of the arts, on the pictorial program on the exterior of the Neue Pinakothek, on the genesis of the collections and on their former presentation."]. VG+: A copy in excellent condition that looks as though it was rarely, if ever, taken off the shelf. A clean dust jacket with no tears and crisp edges.…
