Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Diploma Thesis from the year 2001 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 2,0, International Management School Malente GmbH (Internationale Betriebswirtschaftslehre), language: English, abstract: Inhaltsa…ngabe:Abstract:The essay is about the English and the German banking system, their characteristics and the implications of these. As the English banking system is defined as a specialised banking system and the German one is known as a universal banking system, these terms are explained in the first chapter. Furthermore, the chapter deals with the history of both systems to make clear why these two banking systems developed into two different directions. After having looked at the differences of the two alternative banking systems, their structure is analysed in more detail in the second chapter. All different kinds of banks existing in England and Germany are identified and their scope of functions and goals are described. In the following some important features of the banking systems, such as short-termism and corporate governance, are analysed in great detail. This means that these features are defined and their causes and consequences are identified and evaluated. After the different banking systems have been described with regard to their structure and features, the objective of the next chapter is, to point out the implications of these systems on companies performance. Therefore it is first of all necessary to define performance and the factors being responsible for a high or low economic performance. Afterwards, the influence of the banking systems on these factors are analysed. The last chapter of this essay shortly describes other existing opinions concerning the structure of the banking systems and their implications on companies performance. Furthermore, the chapter points out some tendencies for the future development of these banking systems.Inhaltsverzeichnis:Table of Contents:LIST OF ABBREVIATIONSILIST OF FIGURESIILIST OF TABLESII1.INTRODUCTION12.PRESENTING THE TWO ALTERNATIVE FINANCIAL SYSTEMS22.1THE GERMAN FINANCIAL SYSTEM AND ITS HISTORY22.2THE BRITISH BANKING SYSTEM AND ITS HISTORY33.STRUCTURE OF THE BANKING SYSTEMS33.1GERMANY33.1.1General Information43.1.2Universal Banks53.1.2.1Private Commercial Banks53.1.2.2Savings Bank Sector63.1.2.3Cooperative Sector73.1.3Specialised Banks83.2UK93.21.1The Banking System in General103.2.2Authorised Banks113.2.2.1Retail Banking in the UK113.2.2.2Wholesale Banking123.2.3Listed Discount Market Institutions143.2.4Other Financial Institutions144.FEATURES OF THE BANKING SYSTEMS154.1PROVISION OF CAPITAL AND FUNDING FOR INDUSTRY154.1.1Funding Possibilities154.1.2Special Needs of Small and Medium-sized Companies174.2SHORT - TERMISM184.2.1How to Define Short-termism 184.2.2Institutional Investors Requirements as the Major Cause for Short-termism184.2.3Consequences of Short-termism: R&D194.2.4Consequences of Short-termism: Take-over Activities224.2.4.1Take-over activities: Definition, Targets and Risks224.2.4.2Hostile Take-overs234.3CORPORATE GOVERNANCE254.3.1The English and the German System of Corporate Governance254.3.2Supervisory Boards264.3.3Shareholding275.PERFORMANCE OF COMPANIES295.1SELECTED FACTORS OF INFLUENCE ON ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE295.1.1The Macroeconomic Environment305.1.2Education and Training315.1.3The Company Management325.1.4Innovation335.1.5Funding Costs335.2EVALUATION OF THE COMPANIES' PERFORMANCE346.RÉSUMÉ346.1DIFFERING OPINIONS CONCERNING THE BANKING SYSTEMS356.1.1Five types of universal banks356.1.2Subordinate importance . 60 pp. Englisch.
