She was artistic director of the Hebbeltheater from 1989 to 2003 and director of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program from 2003 to 2006.Johannes Odenthal, art historian and writer on dance, performance, and contemporary art, was in charge of programming at the Akademie der Künste Berlin from 2006 to 2022. He has worked in close collaboration with Nele Hertling since 1989.
