Jens Reuleckes The Bern Manifestos ist eines dieser seltenen Beispiele. Reulecke, sonst…vor allem für Performances und Installationen bekannt, erzählt in diesem Buch die künstlerische Entstehungsgeschichte der 21 Skulpturen - der Bern Manifestos - und legt damit zugleich eine Art 'Making-of' seiner Arbeitsweise vor. Eine Arbeitsweise, die im Kern darauf abzielt, eine spirituelle Erfahrung in eine visuelle zu übersetzen. Zu Beginn setzt sich Reulecke mit der Energie des Ausstellungsraums auseinander, bevor er nach einer angemessenen Form für die Visualisierung sucht. Während es sonst eher Bewegung oder Klang sind, die diese Energien in Reulecke auslösen, waren es in diesem Fall dieser Manifestationen zunächst Zeichnungen kleiner Figuren - die es, damit nicht genug, in die modellierte Form drängte. Zum Glück, muss man sagen. Denn das Schöne an Reuleckes Arbeiten ist, dass sie so gar nichts von einer glatt polierten Erhabenheit haben. Vielmehr wirken sie wie eine Bande kleiner Anarchisten - tief zerfurcht, wild entschlossen, vor allem aber, sie selbst zu sein. Das überrascht kaum, denn ihre Manifestation geschah - vielleicht dank eines göttlichen Fingerzeigs - im legendären Berner ONO. Einem Club, bekannt für seine experimentellen, künstlerischen Crossover-Aktionen, in dem bereits Ausstellungsmacher wie Harald Szeemann und Daniel Spoerri zu Gast waren. Reulecke nutzt in 'The Bern Manifestos' Abbildung als produktives Paradoxon: Er schärft den Blick für das, was wir nicht sehen können, und macht das Spirituelle zu einer Erfahrung an sich, für die es die Theologie nicht braucht. Der Mensch als animal metaphysicum - eine Gegenposition in KI-begeisterter Zeit: The Bern Manifestos zeigt eine Form von Kunst, die mit Beuys und Byars weitgehend aus dem aktuellen Kunstkontext verschwunden ist. Zum Glück nicht ganz, wie dieses Buch zeigt.
