Robert Rendall(1898 - 1967) spent most of life in Kirkwall, Orkney. He spent much ofhis spare time in marine research and writing poetry. He compiled acatalogue of the marine mollusca of Orkney. Robert Rendall was born inGlasgow in 1898 but was of Westray parentage. Rendall was a man of manytalents and is known as a poet, essayist, historian, naturalist andtheologian. A plaque bearing his name is in the presbytery of St MagnusCathedral. He attended Kirkwall Grammar School until he was 13 and thenentered the family business. He joined the Royal Navy in 1916 and servedin Scapa Flow during World War I. In 1946 he semi-retired from businessand devoted his life to his scientific and cultural interests, andfishing.…
