A mass-stiffness-damping system, tuned with the primary mode of the structure, used to reduce the structure's response is termed as a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). Tuned mass dampers placed in skyscrapers show huge deflections and accelerations as they absorb a lot of the energy from the main structure. The responses of these TMDs need to be controlled with some additional dampers to keep their motion in check. 124 pp. Englisch.
