In der Regel entspricht ein Sensornetzwerk in gewisser Weise einem statischen Ad-hoc-Netzwerk, jedoch kommt bei Sensornetzwerken noch eine hohe Dichte hinzu. Ein MANET ist definiert als ein System unabhängiger mobiler Knoten, die über drahtlose Verbindungen ohne vorherige Infrastruktur kommunizieren können.
