The suggested soft starting arrangement is implemented in the existing rolling mill. The followings are the observations recorded.a) The main electric motor of the existing rolling mill is replaced by a smaller capacity electric motor which in turn cuts down the electric consumption in the rolling mill. b) The transmission arrangement of three high open train existing rolling mills is designed and developed which replaces the existing v-belt drive by flat belt drive. c) By using the suggested soft starting arrangement, the monthly electric billing cost is decreased. The monthly electric billing cost of the existing rolling mill is reduced by 29.01 % and the consumption of electricity units reduced by 30.71%.
