This project presents the design and fabrication of a mechanical system to separate solid waste from sewage using a chain-and-bucket conveyor mechanism. The setup includes two slanted fixed screens - the lower screen is submerged in sewage to capture solid debris, while the upper screen prevents collected waste from falling back into the flow. Solid waste is lifted using a conveyor system driven by an induction motor, with its speed regulated using a Voltage Regulator Dimmer (VRD) for simple and cost-effective control. The waste is then deposited into a removable dustbin mounted at the discharge end. Constructed with mild steel and assembled through arc welding, the system demonstrated a collection efficiency of 85-90% in test conditions.
