The projections show that increase in population from 6 billion to 9 billion, will be the main thrust for water resources management for the next 50 years. In India, improper disposal of domestic and industrial waste is the main cause for pollution of lakes, wet lands and rivers. Therefore optimal sustainable use of water, abatement of pollution, conservation of biodiversity in aquatic ecosystem including village ponds, hill stream, rivers, etc. are of paramount importance. This required nation wise efforts of scientists, scholars, social organization, fisheries and aquaculture project managers, administrators and policy makers for making honest efforts in planning and operationalisation of integrated water resources management.
