~ Miró lived in Mallorca almost without interruption during the final 25 years of his long life. In 1955, having achieved a greater degree of stability in his economic and professional affairs, Miró and his wife decided to settle permanently in Mallorca. The family residence was built just outside the city and an artist's friend, the architect J. L. Sert, was commissioned with the design and construction of Miró's "dream" workshop and studio. These spaces would begin to expand in 1959 with the acquisition of some adjacent buildings of Son Boter; the full extent of this extraordinary architectural complex is what is currently referred to as "Miró Territory" in Mallorca. Miró was to live and create in this territory until his death in 1983. In this workshop he planned and executed more than a third of his total artistic production in 30 years of fervent activity and intense aesthetic adventure marked by constant receptivity to innovation, to technical experimentation and to the search for new paths of expression both personal and challenging.
