Cloth. 453 pages. Text in several languages. As new. Leonard Freed, born in 1929 into a working-class family in New York, initially studied applied arts. After hitchhiking through Europe and North Africa he took up photography and lived in Amsterdam from 1956 to 1969. Back in New York he travelled to many countries to make reportages of peoples and wars and worked for the Magnum photo agency. His work has been highly acclaimed in exhibitions, magazines and special book editions. This overview contains almost 200 black and white photographs of his subject: portraits of people all over the world. In the introduction Freed explains his work: ideas, technique, his way of approaching people and how he tries to give his subjects psychological and social content in his portraits, by capturing them in spontaneous moments in a meaningful setting. The short notes to the photographs prompt more general reflections. Besides the well-printed photographs, this beautifully produced edition contains an overview of exhibitions, publications and awards and a short biography. Text in Dutch and English. 777g. Condizione: very good. [foto's Leonard Freed ; interview Marcel Vleugels]. Heerlen : ABP Public Affairs, c2004. Hardcover. In orig. slipcase. 453 pp. 30 cm. Ills. Text in Dutch & English. - Leonard Freed, in 1929 geboren in een arbeidersgezin in New York, studeerde aanvankelijk toegepaste kunst.
