Paperback. Condizione: Good. This is a collection of some of the best of David Shepherd's wildlife art. He is known internationally as an artist and deeply committed conservationist and first learnt about Africa from books about the big game hunters of the 1930s. His first experience of the real Africa was when he attempted unsuccessfully to become a game warden in Kenya. Returning to England he took up painting, initially specializing in aviation art. He was then commissioned by the Royal Air Force to do two paintings in Kenya of elephants, and this was the beginning of his career as a wildlife painter. In the introductory text, David tells of his many visits to Africa and India, the people and animals he met and the friends he made. There are also descriptions of trips he made to take photographs of game. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Reprint, landscape quarto, 112 pages illustrated with black & white sketches and colour plates. Fine black cloth hard back with a fine dust jacket, no inscriptions or marks, an excellent copy. A stunning collection of the best of David's wildlife art, this book is a testimony both to his unique talents as an artist and to the beauty and majesty of the animals he portrays. There are fascinating descriptions of trips he made to shoot game - not with a gun, but with a camera. The paintings which follow are as full of life and light as the landscapes he paints. Complemented by colour sketches, and handwritten notes by the artist himself, they are a celebration of his subjects and his work.
