This measures 7 1/4" x 5 1/4". The book is in good condition with one 1 1/4" crease to bottom of front cover. Slight chipping to edges and spine. Housed in custom c…lamshell case. First issue with three lines, 18 word Elson copyright and code '308.2' (Feb. 8, 1930) the earliest date noted for this book which was reprinted many times well into 1934. The first appearance of Dick and Jane. A revolutionary concept conceived by Zerna Sharp. In 1927 she visited the beach, studied children's speech patterns, and observed the way they spoke to one another. She brought her ideas to William Elson publisher of a Pupil's Hand Chart. Elson agreed to let Sharp develop her idea and, with a team of writers and illustrators, Dick and Jane evolved over 3 years. Green spine/gold text. #0323617 Size: 12mo. Childrens.

Full-colour illustrations and simple stories of Dick, Jane, Baby, and the rest of the family. In this printing, SALLY was still called BABY [unnamed to this point] & SPOT the dog was still a TERRIER. In later editions he became a COCKER SPANIEL. PUFF the cat was still called LITTLE MEW, as of this printing [she was PUFF in later editions].
