Esta sencilla observación es la premisa de 'Cómic radical', en el que Antonio Hitos, el autor de 'Materia', 'Ruido' o 'Inercia', trata de desmenuzar lo que podría constituir una cualidad esencial del lenguaje del cómic. ¿Qué hace del cómic un medio tan singular? Si nos pusiéramos a deshojar, capa por capa, lo que constituye el arte secuencial, ¿qué se revelaría como su núcleo duro? ?El arte del cómic tiene la capacidad de sostenerse emancipado en su cualidad única de expresar el tiempo como espacio: ahí se ubica su condición esencial, y en la puesta en práctica de ese fundamento, su expresión radical?, sostiene Antonio Hitos. En efecto, una de las singularidades del cómic es que consigue plasmar el paso del tiempo. En una misma página, a través de viñetas consecutivas, aparece una secuencia: de repente, el tiempo se convierte en espacio. A lo largo de más de doscientas páginas de cómic, al estilo cartoon más puro y audaz, Antonio Hitos demuestra su planteamiento teórico a modo de performance: desde un sillón, mirando por la ventana, haciendo pompas de jabón o patinando, su personaje se mueve y evoluciona, emociona o deja un poso de tristeza y, sobre todo, deja patente esa propiedad fundamental del cómic, su virtuosismo y su radicalidad. Hitos profundiza en su reflexión en un cuadernillo final donde plantea que el arte secuencial no solo nos permite asistir al paso del tiempo a medida que vamos leyendo las viñetas, sino experimentarlo en nuestras propias carnes. Podemos ver, escuchar, sentir el discurrir del tiempo, ese tiempo que nos atraviesa.
