Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. This new & updated version of Codex Seraphinianus is in very good condition. The cover may have lost the shine & glimmer of a new book (this edition was puiblished without a dusr jacket) but it has no marks or stains and remains in very good shape. The first and last pages are a yellow decorative touch. Both show minor scuffs or discolorations but one would hardly notice if not advised to look.

Condizione: As new. By the author/artist: (illustratore). Large octavo. Decorated boards. New and updated edition, first published in 1981, both this and the present publication are out of print. An extraordinary and surreal artist's book, this edition has been redesigned by the author and includes new illustrations. As new, still encased in shrink wrap. Due to the book's interior being inaccessible I am not able to provide additional images. Extra shipping required for this remarkable book measuring 9 x 13-3/8," 396 pages, please choose Priority Mail. "This visual encyclopedia of an unknown world written in an unknown language has fueled much debate over its meaning. Written for the information age and addressing the import of coding and decoding in genetics, literary criticism, and computer science, the Codex confused, fascinated, and enchanted a generation. While its message may be unclear, its appeal is obvious: it is a most exquisite artifact. Blurring the distinction between art book and art object, this anniversary edition-redesigned by the author and featuring new illustrations-presents this unique work in a new, unparalleled light. With the advent of new media and forms of communication and continuous streams of information, the Codex is now more relevant and timelier than ever. A special limited and numbered deluxe edition that includes a signed print was also available" the publisher.

Small folio (35 x 24 cm). Black cloth, lettered in gilt and black. Heavily illustrated in color, with the text in facsimile of the fanciful manuscript. Fine in dust jacket. First US edition of this whimsical enigma by the Italian architect / designer, first published in 1981 in a limited, two volume edition by Franco Maria Ricci. Presented as an encyclopedia of imaginary things, the Codex and its illustrations appear here in company with extensive text in an invented asemic language and orthography. In spite of the author/artist's categorical assertion that it is a wholly fanciful work, there have been a number of attempts to translate it and reveal its hidden meanings, a semblance of a Voynich manuscript for the 20thth century.
