Fletcher, Westford, [Massachusetts], Sept. 2nd. 1835 on fep. Leaves generally clean with scattered spots of foxing/stain. Minor worm hole to rear blank margins. Two names neatly excised from rear index. Few leaves bent at corners. A handsome book in good condition. First published in Boston in 1830, and reprinted many times, offered here is the third edition printed by Otis Clapp in Boston. Surprisingly, this edition is quite scarce. [Westford, Massachusetts].

Well illustrated with many small in text engraved illustrations and a nice section of full page plates at the back, illustrating Ships, Guns, Anatomy, Steam Engines and more. Text arranged in Triple Columns. Subject words in Larger Font Capitals so this Dictionary is easy to use. 1294 Pages + Descriptions of Plates + The Plates. 10" Tall, 2.9 Kilos. Some wear to leather, especially at corners and sides of spine. Hinges sound and text block firm. Text pages and plates are in very good condition. Heavy book so postage will be extra. Book weighs over 3 Kilos packed so Shipping Outside UK will be extra. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 3rd Edition. Octavo. Pp. xx, 400. Stated third edition, but not dated. The first edition was in 1830, and the second in 1831; this Preface is dated 1832. Worcester calls himself "editor of the American Edition of Webster's Dictionary," although his rivalry with Webster led to accusations of plagiarism. A very good copy, in diced calf boards rebacked in calf with gilt label. Small tape repair to early blank, and small area of light discoloration to title page, else internally fine. Wear to extremities of cover. Two early bookplates. Binding signed "White in Piccadilly.".

Hardcover. Condizione: Good+. This is the second edition published in 1831 by Collins & Hannay of New York. Original brown leather binding. There is quite a bit of wear to the covers and spine, with rubbing and scuffing and the corners rubbed through and slightly bumped. There is a small chip to the leather at the top of the spine and a small tear to the leather at the bottom of the spine. The text block is square. One signature to the front of the book is starting to slip, but still attached. There is some browning to the pages. Decent copy of this early American dictionary. Worcester published this after a dispute with Noah Webster over the publishing rights of his dictionary. ; 400 pages.
