It seems that underdevelopment and conflict go hand in hand. Underdevelopment most often implies large streams of development aid channeled into countries at war. The work evaluates to what extent an increase in development aid affects conflict ripeness. The research shows that the effect is ambivalent: it depends on the conditions of provision whether it is positive or negative. In general, an 'increase in development aid' decreases the intensity of one of the ingredients to conflict ripeness: the mutually hurting stalemate. However, if embedded into a smart strategy, an 'increase in development aid' enhances the second ingredient to conflict ripeness: the sense of a way out. By that it counterbalances the negative effect and thus fosters the phase of ripeness, creating an ideal starting position for a subsequent peace process.

The students' as well as the teachers' ascriptions towards the two genders 'male' and 'female' are being discussed and the way teachers should be aware of gender-related stereotypes is brought up.First, the different aspects of heterogeneity in the EFL-classroom are defined. Afterwards, gender as one aspect of heterogeneity is elucidated. The terms gender and sex are being differentiated and important aspects of gender equity and gender differences are named. Chapter 4 deals with gender-related stereotypes in the EFL-classroom and in school in general. The ideal female and the ideal male characteristics are specified and disadvantages of gender-related ascriptions by teachers and pupils are discussed. The last chapter illustrates the teachers' role in the EFL-classroom where stereotypes are practiced and how they should react to gender-related ascriptions. The work closes with a conclusion.

Secondly, a research gap has been investigated by compiling international scholars and their findings. However, recent developments are not yet addressed adequately in academic research papers, namely the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between the USA and Cuba. Further, based on Ricardo's model of comparative advantages, the existence of a twofold discussion about trade diversity in Cuba has been identified. Thirdly, two hypotheses are raised: The embargo imposed on Cuba has more positive than negative effects on trade diversification (H1) and the embargo imposed on Cuba has negative social welfare effects (H2).In order to answer the initial research question, two conceptual models are developed about trade and welfare effects of embargoes. The latter compares GDP and GDP per capita data as measurements for selected welfare indicators for Cuba and its neighbouring countries, whereas the former compiles the country's trade partners and trade balance. The following discussion suggests a lifting of the embargo including political concerns on both sides, negative impacts on people and economy as well as the influence of the stakeholders. Finally, future political recommendations for welfare improvements in Cuba are suggested.
