Paperback. Condizione: Fair. Despite the sensational nature of its subject, Lost in Translation: Rediscovering the Hebrew Roots of our Faith is written in simple, clear, rational language that relies 100 percent on the Bible as the ultimate authority. The book's authors clear away centuries of confusion surrounding subjects that are seldom addressed in modern sermons and Bible studies. Using the ancient Hebrew language and culture, the authors clarify many of the Bible's so-called mysteries and help the reader rediscover many of the foundational truths that have been lost in translation. Topics include: Who is the Bride of Messiah? Is there a difference between covenant and testament? Israel: Who are they really? What is the difference between devils, demons, and nephilim? Join us on an exciting adventure to rediscover the treasures still buried within the pages of The Book that reveal the pathway to the heart of God. A must-read for the church Providing foundational insights which lead to a greater understanding of God's master plan, this book will open your eyes to scriptural distortions due to the centuries of Greek influence on the church. - Corey Berti, Senior Pastor, Silver Valley Worship Center, ID I've been a believer for 12 years, and I've read numerous scriptures that didn't make sense. The authors do a tremendous job of explaining the importance of understanding our Hebrew roots which provide context and clarity to the overall theme of God's message. It's like watching TV in black and white and then suddenly seeing it in color. The truth hasn't changed, but it's meaning becomes more vivid. - Jason Carr.…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. Reginald Campbell Thompson (1876-1941), grandson of the mathematician Augustus De Morgan, studied oriental languages at Cambridge, and in 1899 began his career in the British Museum's department of Egyptian and Assyrian antiquities. He participated in excavations at Nineveh and Carchemish with colleagues including Leonard William King and David George Hogarth (whose works are also reissued in this series). Thompson's later publications included a verse translation of The Epic of Gilgamish, and studies of ancient science. Published in 1903-4, this two-volume work made a substantial contribution to modern knowledge of ancient Babylonian demonology and magical practices. Volume 2 focuses on purification rituals, protection against disease, and descriptions of supernatural beings, but also contains additional protective charms against evil spirits. The work includes transliterations and explanatory notes, and was designed to accompany earlier British Museum publications of cuneiform texts from the seventh-century BCE Library of Ashurbanipal at Nineveh.…

Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. From myth to manga, an artistic visual history of the human mind through an imaginative collection of fantastical monsters from around the world - Includes more than 300 color illustrations - Reveals monsters to be essential companions to the gods and the necessary complement to the perfect human archetype of the hero Every culture on earth has its own monsters. Their stories, their curious habits and diets, and the ways in which they can be warded off create a picture of imaginations running riot. But what does our creation of monsters say about humankind? Why do we find one-eyed giants both in Japan and ancient Greece, or the same dragons in Europe and China? Hindu legends abound with creatures that are half man, half beast. Pliny described the monstrous races that lurked on the edges of Roman civilization. Even modern imagination is populated by monstrous beings such as the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. This universal fascination with monsters is as old as humanity and continues to grow with each generation. Why? Because monsters respond to a sense of the supernatural that lies deep within us. The battle between order and chaos, good and evil, is made visible through gods and monsters. Introducing a bestiary of bizarre creatures from the furthest reaches of artists' imaginations, this book offers a unique visual history of the human mind through a collection of fantastical monsters drawn from all over the world--from the earliest prehistoric depictions to the classical world, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance, up to the first glimmer of modern science and Romantic horror. From myth to manga, from dreams to nightmares, Christopher Dell's mythic-religious study of monsters shows them to be essential companions to the gods as well as the necessary complement to the perfect human archetype of the hero.…
