Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. 3rd Edition. Third (tercera) Spanish edition stated and printing thus(preceded by the 2007 Australian hardcover release among others), of a near fine hardcover, with a small bump to the bottom front corner and diagonal creases on pages 223 &225, Page 225 also has a small closed tear, with no jacket, I believe as issued. Probably donated at some point to "En La Biblioteca Libre" (The Free Library) and has a stamped statement and unique code on the half title page, so that you could register the book, I'm assuming to see where it's been. I tried that site but it's no longer available. I will include the English translation for the statement. The story of aging writer known only as Senior C. living in Australia, having been commissioned to write a series of essays on a wide range of topics, and the neighbour Anya, who he hires as his typist. Soon diary entries appear beneath the essays and describes the relationship that forms between the two characters. This copy is inscribed and signed by the author on the title page. A unique item. Inscribed by Author.

First Australian edition of this groundbreaking novel. Octavo, original boards. Signed by J.M. Coetzee on the title page. Near fine in a fine dust jacket. Cover design by Chong. J.M. Coetzee once again breaks literary ground with Diary of a Bad Year, a book that is, in the words of its protagonist, a response to the present in which I find myself. Aging author Senor C has been commissioned to write a series of essays entitled Strong Opinions, of which he has many. After hiring a beautiful young typist named Anya, the two embark on a relationship that will have a profound impact on them both especially when Alan, Anya's no-good boyfriend, develops designs on Senor C's bank account. Told in these three voices simultaneously, Coetzee has created any entirely new way of telling a story, and nothing less than an involving, argumentative, moving novel (The New Yorker).

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Signed, first edition. Dust jacket in near fine condition some bumping to the bottom of the spine. Book in near fine condition, boards clean, bumping to the base and top of the spine, has spine lean, corners sharp, text block is majority clean but has a couple of spots on the base. In general a lovely copy. An eminent, ageing Australian writer is invited to contribute to a book entitled Strong Opinions. For him, troubled by Australia's complicity in the wars in the Middle East,it is a chance to air some urgent concerns: how should a citizen of a modern democracy react to their state's involvement in an immoral war on terror, a war that involves the use of torture? Then in the laundry room of his apartment block he encounters an alluring young woman. He offers her work typing up his manuscript. Anya is not interested in politics, but the job will be a welcome distraction, as will the writer's evident attraction towards her. Her boyfriend, Alan, is an investment consultant who understands the world in harsh economic terms. Suspicious of his trophy girlfriend's new pastime, Alan begins to formulate a plan. Hardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 231 pages. Published in 2007. The author's eleventh novel. One of the greatest novels of our time. Deluxe Leatherbound And Slipcased Edition of 100 numbered and signed copies. Except for the Australian, the Deluxe Edition precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. The Deluxe Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Harvill Secker Press: Regular-sized volume format. Blue goatskin leather binding with gilt titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Text by J. M. Coetzee. Marbled endpapers. Maroon cloth slipcase. Printed on archival stock paper in the United Kingdom to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its ultimate collectible format, J. M. Coetzee's "Diary of A Bad Year". Addresses the profound unease of countless people in modern democracies. "An eminent, seventy-two-year-old Australian writer is invited to contribute to a book entitled 'Strong Opinions'. It is a chance to air some urgent concerns. He writes short essays on the origins of the state, on Machiavelli, on anarchism, on Al-Qaida, on Intelligent Design, on music. What, he asks, is the origin of the state and the nature of the relationship between citizen and state? How should the citizen of a modern democracy react to the state's willingness to set aside moral considerations and civil liberties in its War on Terror? How does the state handle outsiders? In the laundry-room of his apartment block, he encounters an alluring young woman. When he discovers she is between jobs, he claims failing eyesight and offers her work typing up his manuscript. Anya has no interest in politics, but the job provides a distraction, as does the writer's evident and not unwelcome attraction toward her. An utterly contemporary work of fiction from one of our greatest writers and deepest thinkers" (Publisher's blurb). Unlike most contemporary writers, J. M. Coetzee has been an "engaged" writer from the beginning, during his anti-Apartheid days in South Africa. He has also always offered the greatest aesthetic pleasure, in prose of the highest literary quality and in his profoundly speculative, anti-didactic, anti-dogmatic, and anti-propagandistic reflections on the major issues of our time. The novel's title is an allusion to Coetzee's idol, Daniel Defoe ("Journal of The Plague Year") while being at the same time, a novel of ideas in the grand tradition of Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, and Kafka. An absolute "must-have" title for J. M. Coetzee collectors. This is a copy of the Deluxe Leatherbound And Slipcased Edition, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page (Number 49). It is very prominently and beautifully numbered and signed in black ink-pen by J. M. Coetzee. This title is a great book. This is one of few copies of the Deluxe Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. Winner of the Lannan Award in 1998, the Jerusalem Prize in 1999, the Booker Prize in 1983 for "The Life & Times of Michael K" and in 1999 for "Disgrace", the first writer to win the most prestigious British literary award twice. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2003. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER J. M. COETZEE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1846551668.
