The book Spatial Dimensions of Socio Economic Development in Himachal Pradesh evaluates the progress made in the state of Himachal Pradesh during the three decades 1981 to 2001. This is an in depth analysis of four major components of development viz. agriculture industry economic infrastructure and social sector in the 12 districts of the state. It is a factorial analysis based on 42 indicators and helps to identify the lagging districts and the lagging sectors. Based on this evaluation plan formulation can be made for the different physiographic districts of the state based on their resource potentials levels of development and the objectives of socio economic equity and regional balance. Strategies have been suggested under a decentralized multilevel planning process which emphasizes on spatial organization and corporate management. Agricultural and industrial development strategies focus attention on regional potentialities and maximization of production. These strategies would pave the way for a more balanced regional development of Himachal Pradesh if and when properly implemented. It is hoped that the book will be of direct interest and use to academics development planners and policy makers. 190 pp.

The study is based on a comprehensive field survey of thirty seven villages. It concentrate on land use classification of Rohilkhand to drive maximum benefits from each type of land whether agricultural or non-agricultural. Crop combination regions worked out keeping in view the importance of integrated assemblage of various crops. The crop-wise growth computed on the basis of linear regression. Agricultural productivity regions worked out to delineate the general pattern of productivity in the districts of the region. A causal relationship between the variables of agriculture and socio-economic development has been computed to know the regional imbalances. The levels of agriculture and socio-economic development worked out by using the Z score technique. This study examines what a situation is like and explaining how it got that way, and goes on to predict where it is going next and what should be done in response. 284 pp. Englisch.
