Cover and spine are good with only mild shelf/rub wear. No dog-eared corners. Solid Binding. All pages intact and legible. Clean. No store stamps. --- --- A brilliant and terrifying G…othic, DRAGONMEDE begins in London in the late 1800's, a time when nobility was the golden key that opened all doors. To Eustacia Rochdale, life was exciting, if uncertain. Her mother, beautiful and talented, courted the rich and titled who came to her Bloomsbury home to gamble and relax. . . . .Luella always managed to win enough from her guests to support herself comfortably, but she was determined that her daughter achieve the respectable upper-class marriage that she herself could never attain. . . . .When Eustacia meets Julian Kershaw--heir to Dragonmede, a title, and a family fortune--Luella is delighted. Desperately gambling on the young man's unskilled passion for cards and his obvious attraction toward Eustacia, she succeeds in arranging their engagement . . . .Eustacia arrives at Dragonmede as Julian's new bride, unaware of her mother's manipulations. She is met with hostility and suspicion, and when Julian himself becomes cold and withdrawn, she begins to wonder if the various accidents occurring since her arrival are not indeed attempts on her life. --- HERE'S THE FIRST FEW SENTENCES --- --- By most standards my upbringing was scandalous, although it was a long time before this fact was brought home to me. As a child I accepted without question the bohemian, rather shameful, but happy life I lived with my mother until I was old enough to learn that it was, to say the least, unconventional, and even then I continued to accept it because whatever her mode of living, her lack of morals, and her feckless attitude toward money, my mother had the rare ability to make life rich and full and warm. She lived generously and she loved generously, and more than all she loved me. . . .See photos for additional content. . .

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Dragonmede by Rona Randall. Simon & Schuster, 1974. Book Condition / Dust Jacket Condition • Book: Very Good to Very Good +; Solid and attractive copy with sound binding and light to moderate general handling wear consistent with age. Blue and black cloth boards remain presentable, wh…ite spine lettering shuld still read clearly, and the book appears to retain good shelf presence overall. The 344-page text block and purple endpapers are nice period production details. • Dust Jacket: Not present. No dust jacket. (see photos) Printing identification note: Because this copy lacks a stated edition or printing and has no other edition points supplied, I would catalog it conservatively as a 1974 Simon & Schuster hardcover edition rather than as a confirmed first edition/first printing. That said, multiple bookseller and catalog records do show a 1974 Simon & Schuster hardcover issue, and at least some sellers describe that issue as a first edition, so the copy may well be from the original hardcover publication even though it is safest not to overclaim without explicit points from the copyright page. A gothic historical novel set in late nineteenth-century London, Dragonmede blends romance, menace, and period atmosphere in the classic gothic mode. Rona Randall was well known for suspenseful romantic fiction of this type, and this title should appeal to readers of vintage gothics, historical romance, and atmospheric women's fiction. Contemporary references also describe it as a gothic novel set in late-1800s London.

Synopsis by Good Reads "Rona Green was born on 16 June 1911 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England, UK. Her education includes: Pitmans College in London, a Diploma in English Literature at Royal Society of Art, Birkenhead School of Art Literary. She married Frederick Walter Shambrook, and had a son. A former actress, before writing, she worked also as journalist and sub-director of publishing company Amalgamated Press, and as assistant editor of George Newnes Ltd. Published since 1942, she started publishing mainly contemporary doctor nurse romances, before writing also gothic romances, and when the market for gothic novels softened, she wrote historical mystery romances. In 1970, Broken Tapestry, her contemporary novel about a broken family, won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award by the Romantic Novelists' Association. In 1989, she wrote her The Model Wife: Nineteenth Century Style, a book about social constumbres, including clothing. In 1992, she wrote Writing Popular Fiction, a complete guide for writers."
