He saw action with U.S. forces during the American-Filipino War, the Boer War, and the First World War. He was a neurologist to the Royal Naval Hospital Chatham and represented the Naval Medical Service at an Internation Congress of Naval and Military Surgeons held in Washington. He was named an Honorary Physical to King George. He was an expert on the effects of small-bore, high velocity projectiles on the human body. In 1938 he published his Dictionary of Scientific Terms.
