Lorell is a senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation. He specializes in weapon system acquisition policies, defense industrial base, international weapon system collaboration, weapons procurement and industrial policies of allies. He is the lead author or coauthor of more than 45 RAND reports and books. Lorell's work focuses on weapon system acquisition and cost analysis policies and improving overall outcomes.
