In der systematischen Einleitung und in dreizehn Einzelbeiträgen sondiert der vorliegende Band explizit die zwei Forsc…hungsfelder in der bisherigen Beschäftigung mit narrativer Polyphonie: Die ersten sechs Beiträge untersuchen die Polyphonie in Verbindung und in Abgrenzung zur Multiperspektivität. Die folgenden sieben Beiträge machen sich für ein musikoliterarisches Verständnis von Polyphonie an der Schnittstelle zwischen Literatur und Musik stark. Über das akustisch-musikalische Verständnis von Polyphonie rücken Aspekte der Narration in den Fokus, die in einer primär an visuellen Analysekategorien (Perspektive, Point of View, Fokalisierung) ausgerichteten Narratologie vernachlässigt werden. So eröffnet die Polyphonie einen Zugang zur spezifischen Akustik des literarischen Kommunikationssystems und zur komplexen Gleichzeitigkeit von Erzählformen zwischen Musik und Literatur.
