Formato cm 14,0 x 22,0, pagg 180, 8 illustrazioni in b/n. Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker è stato un fisico, astrofisico e filosofo tedesco. È stato il più longevo membro del team di scienziati che fece ricerche nucleari nella Germania nazista durante la seconda guerra mondiale, sotto il comando di Werner Heisenberg. I suoi maggiori interessi come giovane ricercatore erano l'energia di legame degli atomi e i processi nucleari nelle stelle. Assieme a Hans Bethe studiò il processo ciclico di fusione nelle stelle. Già nel 1944 aveva riproposto una sua ipotesi circa la formazione del sistema solare, introducendo perfezionamenti che lo sviluppo del sapere aveva reso possibili dall'epoca di Laplace. Tale ipotesi è ora ritenuta la più probabile. Negli stessi anni intensificò l'interesse per gli aspetti storici e filosofici della fisica che aveva già manifestato anche in gioventù, frequentando Heidegger.
