The son of composer George Dyson, British-American mathematician and theoretical physicist Freeman was born in Berkshire, England, and at the age of 15 began attending Trinity College, Cambridge, after being awarded a scholarship there. Over the course of his long career, he developed a series of eponymous scientific theories, among them Dyson's transform, the Dyson sphere, and Dyson's eternal intelligence, and received numerous awards for his work, including the Enrico Fermi Prize, the Hughes Medal, the Henri Poincaré Prize, and the Heineman Medal. In 1952, J. Robert Oppenheimer offered Dyson a lifetime appointment at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study, where he worked until his retirement in 1994. Black cloth, stamped in gilt on spine.
