Macmillan. London 1976. First edition, first issue. DW. The page block is tanned as is usually the case with this title. The spine is slightly faded and sunned to head and tail with slight shelfwear along lower edge, the inner hinge is very slightly visible at title page but binding is sound and apart from these faults this is a very nice copy of the second Morse title and a rare book in a very good wrapper that shows the original price of £2.95 (NOT price-clipped) and has a few close tears and creases to edges and is chipped at top corners.

Prima edizione
First US edition, first printing, signed by the author on the title page, of the second novel in the Inspector Morse series. The books were made into one of the most successful British television crime dramas of all time, running from 1987 to 1993 and starring John Thaw in the titular role. "John Ireland's surreal design for Last Seen Wearing showing a rather macabre set of schoolgirl's clothing walking down a street - unaided by any schoolgirl inside them - is one of the highlights of 1970s jacket design" (Breese, p. 56). Martin Breese, Breese's Guide to Modern First Editions, 1993. Octavo. Original light blue boards, spine lettered in black. With dust jacket. Slight fading to board edges, front inner hinge tender, visible at gutter of title page; the bright jacket with short closed tears near spine ends: a near-fine copy in very good jacket.

Page edges uniformly tanned, else a fine bright copy in dust jacket with one tiny closed tear to top edge of front panel. Chief Inspector Morse is troubled by the disappearance of Valerie Taylor, a student who on her way back to school mysteriously disappears. After two years, Valerie is presumed dead. But if she's dead, who is writing the letters to her parents saying that she's alright? When a man closely connected to Valerie is found murdered, Morse reopens the case and is determined to solve it.
