The book has Williams personal ink stamp on the full title page stating his name and Yale University New Haven, Conn. along with his signature which also may be a separate ink stamp. On the front end paper is a paste down from the Hardy-Williams Library at Yale. There are also two stamps on the full title page from Cornel University Geology Department. One is an ink stamp and the other is a blind stamp. Over the years Williams went back and forth teaching at both Yale and Cornel. He had a lifelong association with the United States Geological Survey, and was the intellectual father of Sigma Xi. He was the first president of the Alpha Chapter of Sigma Xi in 1887. He retired from Cornel in 1912 as Professor Emeritus. On the ffep there is also the signature of Stanley Winchester Holmes, Cornel University. Holmes was also associated with the United States Geological Survey and did geological reports in both the U.S and Canada. The book is good+ with the front end papers split but not totally separated and the rear end papers split and separated. The cover is quarter cloth on marbled boards with only minimal wear to edges and remnant of dewey decimal sticker on spine. The text block is in fine condition excepting the ink stamps and signatures.
