First This Edition. xxii, 422 pp, index; This Old English grammar belonged to Day during his period as a Rhodes Scholar at Christ Church, Oxford, before his departure for Berlin, where he studied Beowulf; the book (by Eduard Sievers & Albert Cook) features an Oxford bookseller's label on the front pastedown & Day's signature (with "(Ch.Ch.) Oxford") on the ffep, about 78 of the first 90 pages contain pencil markings and notations by Day; sometimes these consist merely of underlining, but on many pages he has added marginal notes; the rear pastedown & about ten other pages also contain markings and/or notes by him; the book shows toning to the spine, minor wear & soiling, but overall a tight copy. An important association copy documenting a significant period in Day's life. Signed by Author(s).
