The previous manuals and grammars, good as they were i…n their day, do not fulfill modern requirements. The grammar, syntax, rules, and exercises in this manual are entirely original and have been designed to ensure that the student should gain a knowledge of Pushtu as spoken by genuine Pathans. In a work of this kind where for the first time a Pathan born and bred has attempted to codify his mother tongue, it is inevitable that some errors, or at least weaknesses, should occur. To a real student of the language, the need for properly organized facts of grammar was imperative and the author has done well to write this book. The book is extremely interesting and instructive. About the Author:-Qazi Rahimullah Khan was a real Pushtu Munshi in Afghanistan. He has brought the experience of years of teaching to bear on the subject he has so skillfully handled in his writing. He is the author of books such as Introduction to Pushtu; The Modern Pushtu Instructor and Introduction to Pushtu: An Official Language of Afghanistan. "Spengler served his country as a Foreign Service Officer in Thailand, Norway, Pakistan and Afghanistan. During WWII, he served as a code breaker in the U.S. Army, joined the Department of State in 1950 and retired as Consul General in Lahore, Pakistan in 1976. He was a member of the Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Singing in America for 59 years and organized a quartet in almost every place he lived. In Kabul in the 1960s, he found interest in the ancient coins from the region and became one of the foremost authorities on the peoples who had passed through the area through the centuries. This interest in numismatics and history influenced the rest of his life. He published numerous articles, contributed and edited catalogs on world coins and co-authored two books on the Turkomans" (from his 2005 obituary as published in the Colorado Springs Gazette). Pushtu (also known as Pashto or Pushto) is one of the official languages of Afghanistan, and is also spoken in parts of northwestern Pakistan. The book remains in print to this day.
