All of the books are a 1/4 bound in a tan leather along with the corners of each cover. Gilt titles on the spine are fairly bright. Each book has many photographic illustrations in color and black and white. Top edge of each book is gilt and is lightly dulled. Some light toning to the pages. Additional details of each book will follow: Book I - Bird Neighbors by Neltje Blanchan with an introduction by John Burroughs. Edges of the spine and the corners of this book are heavily rubbed and the front hinge is cracked, but binding is holding. Previous owner's name is on the front free end paper. Book II - Birds that Hunt and are Hunted by Neltje Blanchan with an introduction by G. O. Shields (Coquina). Some wear to the leather on the spine and the edges. The top of the spine has a few small tears and is tender. Back hinge is partially cracked, but binding is holding. Book III - Bird Homes by A. Radclyffe Dugmore. Spine of the book has some minor leather wear. Corners of the leather are heavily rubbed away along with the top edge. Previous owner's name on the front free end paper. Hinges are intact, but the bottom inch of the front free end seems slightly loosened. Book IV - American Animals by Witmer Stone and William Everett Cram. Edges have some minor rubbing. Rear hinge is starting to crack. Book V - Food and Game Fishes by David Starr Jordan, Ph. D. And Barton Warren Evermann Ph. D. Edges, especially corners are heavily rubbed. Front hinge is cracked, but holding. Book VI - The Butterfly Book by W. J. Holland Ph. D. D. , LL. D . Light rubbing to the edges, but the corners are worn heavily. Hinges are solid. Book VII - The Moth Book by W. J. Holland Ph. D. D. , LL. D. Light rubbing to the edges, but the corners are worn heavily. A few spots on the corners have some of the leather peeling. Hinges are solid. Name of previous owner on the front free end paper. VIII - The Insect Book by Leland O. Howard, Ph. D. Light rubbing to the edges, but the corners are worn heavily. Small (about 1 inch long 1/4 wide) white stain on the cloth of the cover. Hinges are solid. Book IX - Nature's Garden (wildflowers) by Neltje Blanchan. Minor rubbing to the edges. Some peeling to the leather on the bottom front cover and back top corner is darkened. Hinges are solid. Book X - The Mushroom Book by Nina L. Marshall. Very minimal rubbing on this one. The hinges are solid. In addition to this set we are including a copy of Mosses and Lichen by Nina L. Marshall (1907) a difficult copy to find. Spine is mostly missing, but hinges are intact and solid. Has some foxing and some rippling from liquid damage along the edges, but the book is completely useable Overall a very nice set.
