Libro
Condizione: new. (Hardcover, 1986). (1954) 1986 new edition. 8vo (145 x 222mm). Pp251. B/w photographs, green end-papers. Black boards with gilt tiger's head on upper board, spine titled in gilt. Very good copy in dust-wrapper. This is Kenneth Anderson's detailed and instructive account of life and wildlife in the jungles of Northern India, hung around naratives of tracking down man-eating tigers, panthers, leopards and elephants. "It must not be imagined, however, that the forests of India are always stocked with man-eating tigers and leopards, or rogue elephants. Generally they do not exist, and the jungles are then safer to wander in than any busy street of a capital city, where the possibility of being run over by motor traffic at any moment is considerable. Further, the beauties of nature, of the flowers, insects, birds and animals - the glories of an Indian jungle dawn [and so on.] and the sense of nearness to Nature and to God, fill the wanderer with an assurance that he has at last found a home, from which he will not willingly be torn." Chapters include: The man-eater of Jowlagiri; The spotted devil of Gummlapur; The striped terror of Chamala Valley; The Hosdurga-Holalkere man-eater; The rogue elephant of Panapatti; The man-eater of Segur; The man-eater of Yemmaydoddi; The killer of Jalahalli; The hermit of Devarayandurga; Byra, the Poojaree; The tigers of Tagarthy. .
