paperback. Condizione: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. The bold, distinctive style of Paula Rego's paintings has acquired for her not only an ever-increasing critical reputation but also an unusually large and enthusiastic following. Her be-ribboned little-girl heroines and fairy-tale characters seem firmly rooted in childhood, yet the innocence of this art is darkened by the underlying themes of power, domination and rebellion, sexuality and gender, that run through her work. Here Rego has turned to the nursery rhyme as a source for her imagery. It is a genre that perfectly complements her art; full of double meanings, rhymes are written from a child's perspective but are open to adult interpretation. Twenty-six well-known nursery rhymes are accompanied by a series of etchings which she has executed spontaneously as a child might, drawing directly on the plate without preparatory planning. Following the traditions of earlier artists such as Beatrix Potter, she treats the fantastic realistically, dressing animals in human costume and using dream-like dislocations of scale. These are wonderfully comic and rich illustrations with a hint of the sinister, that turn classic nursery rhymes into colourful stories about folly and delusion, cruelty, convention and sex. Paula Regos anthology of traditional nursery rhymes, illustrated by her sometimes disturbing, but always arresting engravings. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The first book to focus on Dame Paula Regos little known monumental triptych, Crivellis Garden, featuring an original short story by novelist Chloe Aridjis, new photography and an art historical essay Dame Paula Rego RA (19352022) was a British-Portuguese artist whose large scale figurative paintings explored human relationships and the experience of women through compelling, often subversive compositions. Inspired by the predella panel of Carlo Crivellis altarpiece, La Madonna della Rondine (after 1490), Rego produced Crivellis Garden in 19901991 while she was Artist in Residence at the National Gallery. This monumental triptych reimagined the site of Crivellis panel as a radical space populated by female figures from myth, folklore and the bible, alongside animals drawn from Aesops fables and other Classical texts. Literature was a major influence on Regos practice throughout her career: this publication in turn celebrates the far-reaching influence of Regos paintings with an original short story by Mexican novelist Chloe Aridjis, inspired by Regos triptych. Illustrated with previously unpublished preparatory drawings and newly photographed details of the painting, the book also features an art historical essay on the work. Published by National Gallery Global/Distributed by Yale University PressExhibition Schedule: The National Gallery, London (July 20October 29, 2023) The first book to focus on Dame Paula Regos little-known monumental triptych, Crivellis Garden, featuring an original short story by novelist Chloe Aridjis, new photography, and an art historical essay Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
