In a f…irst section, after an overview on Prof. Carmeliet's work on K currents, a number of distinguished scientists present up-to-date information provided by molecular biology on the structure-function relations of the diversity of cardiac K channels. The regulation of K channels by intra- and extracellular factors is treated next. The following chapters deal with the role of K currents (with emphasis on the ATP-sensitive K channels) for myocardial hypoxia and ischemia. In the last chapters of this section the delayed rectifier and the role of class III antiarrhythmic drugs are discussed.
