Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. [HORSE RACING] [HORSES] [GREAT BRITAIN] [IRELAND] Sporting Review. Spring Edition of Ruff's Guide to the Turf; or Pocket Racing Companion for 1862? (London: Sporting Review, 1862). Thin green colored, coarse, pebbled cloth covers with paper title label laid down on the front cover; xxvi, 367, [2] pp; ads. Measures approximately 4.5 x 6.75 inches. Cover label reads, "Spring Edition. Ruff's Guide to the Turf, 1862. In cloth, Price Half-a-Crown. Free by Post, 2s, 8d. "Sporting Review" Office, 246, Strand, London, W.C." Blind stamp of W. H. Smith & Son on first free flyleaf with a list of books being sold at reduced prices by that bookdealer tipped onto the same flyleaf. Bookplate of Edward Lasker of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Foundation is laid down on inside of front cover. Someone has written the date 1861 in ink on the cover label; top quarter inch of cloth covered spine is missing; guide shows evidence of being used with a weak interior front hinge, but is still together and, overall, is in VG condition. Length of Courses; Laws of Racing; Derby Lots; Colours of the Riders; List of the Trainers, Jockeys, &c., &c.; Winners of the Great Races from Their Commencement; Queen's Plate Articles and Weights; Winners of the Liverpool Steeple Chase. Alphabetical List of Horses in Training.".
