Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. Signed and inscribed to a friend by Saul Alinsky (1909-1972) atop front free endpaper. "America's most famous community organizer tells the Have-Nots how they can organize to achieve real political power for the practice of true democracy. The distillation of Mr. Alinsky's more than forty years as a professional radical. This hard-headed tactical advice provides an alternative not only to the powerlessness that threatens our democracy but to the random violence and bitter alienation by which so much radical energy is wasted." - dust jacket. In her B.A. thesis entitled 'An Analysis of the Alinsky Model' Hillary Clinton wrote "In regard to the paper itself, there are three people who deserve special appreciation [including] Mr. Alinsky for providing a topic, sharing his time and offering me a job." Book very clean, bright, tight and unmarked with negligible wear. Average wear to unclipped dust jacket now preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Black cloth/boards; gilt lettering. White/red/yellow ochre dj with bw lettering. xxv, 196 pp. with no illustrations. Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals is the last book published in 1971 by activist and writer Saul D. Alinsky shortly before his death. His goal for the Rules for Radicals was to create a guide for future community organizers to use in uniting low-income communities, or "Have-Nots", in order for them to gain social, political, legal, and economic power. Within it, Alinsky compiled the lessons he had learned throughout his experiences of community organizing from 1939-1971 and targeted these lessons at the current, new generation of radicals. Divided into ten chapters, Rules for Radicals provides 10 lessons on how a community organizer can accomplish the goal of successfully uniting people into an active organization with the power to effect change on a variety of issues. Though targeted at community organization, these chapters also touch on other issues that range from ethics, education, communication, and symbol construction to nonviolence and political philosophy. Though published for the new generation of counterculture-era organizers in 1971, Alinsky's principles have been successfully applied by numerous government, labor, community, and congregation-based organizations, and the main themes of his organizational methods that were elucidated upon in Rules for Radicals have been recurring elements in political campaigns in recent years. Perhaps quite timely. Good and tight; underlining on occasional pages. Age toning and general shelf wear/edge wear to dj. Former owner's name on ffep.

[14], xiv-xxvi, [3], 4-196, [2] pp. Black cloth with red lettering on the front board and gold lettering on the spine. Price of $6.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Jacket design by Jay J. Smith. Vox, Dylan Matthews, "Who is Saul Alinsky, and why does the right hate him so much?". This was Alinksy's final publication before his death in 1972. The author was a hugely influential American social activist, and his methods for community organizing influenced later activists like Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez. According to Matthews, the Vox journalist, Alinsky's tactics would also influence the organizational methods of the American Tea Party movement. Alinksy was proud to help working people and people living in poverty demand better living and working conditions from political leaders and from corporations. A ripple to the paper on the front pastedown, foxing to the pastedowns, endpapers, and top textblock; light foxing to the jacket.
